NFL Playoffs Picks – Jets vs Chargers

Written January 15, 2010 by Nick Jones

The New York Jets rookie team is making people sit up and take notice. Everyone knows about rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez and rookie coach Rex Ryan but the news from last week’s game was rookie running back Shonn Greene. Greene was filling in for injured Thomas Jones and ran like a man possessed. On the defense for the Jets, many think that Darrelle Revis is the defensive player of the year. Last week Revis shut down Ochocinco, just as he has done week after week. This week his job continues to get tougher with receiver Vincent Jackson, averaging 17.8 yards per catch in the playoffs with 22 receptions.

The San Deigo Chargers have had a very potent rushing game in years past with LaDaimian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles but this year those numbers aren’t as high as many expected. So Rivers will have to keep passing the ball in order to open up some running lanes. Fortunately, he has lots of help in that area. Besides Jackson, the Chargers have receiver Malcom Floyd, tight end Antonio Gates and even Sproles to catch those passes. As high powered as the Chargers offense is, their defense is tied for worst among play off teams allowing 4.5 yards per rush. Shonn Greene should have a good time running against this defense and that could make for a very long day for the Chargers.
