NFC Championship Picks
Written January 22, 2010 by Nick Jones
Of course the first thing people think of when they talk about the Minnesota Vikings is Brett Favre and why not with a touchdown to interception differential of +30. But again we’re talking about defenses winning ballgames. The Vikings’ defense took care of Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo last week with 6 sacks and 19 pressures.
And the New Orleans Saints finally had their secondary healthy last week – just in time to play shutdown coverage against Kurt Warner. The Saints defense made sure that Warner couldn’t get comfortable and didn’t have tine to find an open receiver.
So this week will we still be talking defense? Can the Vikings’ Chad Greenway and Ben Leber take care of Reggie Bush and Drew Brees? Bush has been a bit of a disappointment to Saints’ fans but he came on strong last week and they will need him to do that again this week, especially if tight end Jeremy Shockey doesn’t play because of a sore knee. Brees is hoping that wide receiver Robert Meachem is back this week since he is their main deep threat. That would help open up some holes for the running game.
Or will this be Adrian Peterson’s week to run against the Saints’ #21 ranked run defense? The Vikings might need more production out of AP since receiver Percy Harvin is questionable for Sunday’s game because of migraines. Harvin has played with migraines before but also has missed one game this season because of them so it’s unknown yet if he can play through this one.
So, the NFL championship game might come down to who isn’t playing as much as who is.

Got something to say?

The majority of people are taking the Colts to kill the Jets this
week but you have to consider how well New York matches up against
Indy. Indy has the worst running game in the league, and is ALL
Peyton. The Jets have the #1 pass-defence and if they can put the
clamps on Peyton early… it could very well be a Jets win. TheCoach
isn’t calling a J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS win but they will cover the
spread. I know Indy shut down Baltimore’s running game last week
but the Jets strive on being quick and elusive.. something Ray Rice
isn’t…
Minnesota and New Orleans is going to be such a good game. I was
hoping all season long these two would meet up in the NFC
Championship and honestly.. either team could team this game. The
Saints are -3.0 favourites and historically home team get given three
points for the home-field advantage… so basically this game is a
pick-em and there is ONE thing that I like about the Saints and its
that home-field advantage. Last week Warner and Romo combined for 7
sacks and 4 fumbles largely in part to not being able to communicate
with their offence. The SuperDome is NUTS and I don’t care how much
experience Favre has, the crowd can help a team and also hurt the
other so much.
Best of luck to all this week,
