College Football Picks for Florida Teams
September 25, 2009
The state of Florida has three BCS programs and for many years they have been a good bet to finish well in the ranks of college football. In recent years there’s been a relative newcomer to the ranks though, as South Florida has become more competitive. But can they really change the Big Three to the Big Four? To do that they will need to beat the some of the others to earn respect. And the Bulls get their chance this Saturday when they go to Tallahassee to play Florida State. Later they will...
Best Defense in the NFL
September 21, 2009
Did anyone predict that the Chicago Bears defense would help them win without Bryan Urlacher? Yes the NFL is full of surprised. Ok, maybe the rain and wet, torn up turf helped as much as anything. But it was good to see Jay Cutler settle down after week one’s horrible performance. It is much easier for a QB to settle in when he knows his defense will keep him in the game. The Bears did just that and they were able to pull off a big upset win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Which brings us to,...
Picking Winners in the NFL
September 21, 2009
Picking winners in the NFL is a crazy game. From injuries to weather to new coaches or players, who can predict what will happen? If anyone had told you that Donovan McNabb’s backup Kevin Kolb threw for 391 yards and 2 touchdowns you might have thought they had a great game! However, he also threw 3 interceptions, one returned 97 yards for a touchdown. Maybe next week we’ll see Michael Vick. And who know what will happen then. You might also think that with Bob Sanders out, the Indianapolis...
NFC West Free Football Picks
September 13, 2009
Are the Arizona Cardinals the best bet for the NFC West division championship? Are they for real or was last season a magic trick? The defense should continue to improve this season and first round pick Chris “Beanie” Wells is an upgrade at running back. Add that to Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin on offense and I think the Cardinals should be our favorites. Mike Singletary had the 49ers playing well to end last season so things are looking up in San Francisco. They still...
NFC South Free NFL Picks
September 13, 2009
The Atlanta Falcons like their chances this season after their 11-5 record last year. Michael Turner is a top running back and with tight end Tony Gonzalez coming to town things are looking good for the Falcons even though they have a tougher schedule this season. The Carolina Panthers did everything right last season except win in the postseason. Can Jake Delhomme get them past that this year? Tampa Bay cleaned house after going 9-7 last season. Jon Gruden, Warrick Dunn, and Derrick Brooks are...
NFC North Football Picks
September 13, 2009
The fans of the NFC North have more reason to cheer their favorites as the teams have shuffled players to rivals in the off season. Add Brett Favre to Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings has a great combination on offense. All the experience and intelligence that Favre adds should make up for his age and injury drawbacks. Add the Vikings outstanding run defense and they appear to be the complete package. Packers fans probably won’t be too excited to see Brett wearing purple this season...
NFC East Football Picks
September 13, 2009
The New York Giants might have been a preseason favorite to win the NFC and to get to their second Super Bowl in three years. But they have a lot of questions still to answer. Can they score enough points to win without Plaxico Burress? They didn’t do much without him last year and did little at all to replace him this year. So maybe that makes the Philadelphia Eagles the best pick to win the conference championship. They finished well last season and Donovan McNabb has never had more weapons...
AFC West NFL Football Picks
September 13, 2009
If your favorite NFL team plays in the lowly AFC West, well you might want to pick a new favorite. The Denver Broncos have traded quarterbacks with the Chicago Bears and life won’t be easy for Kyle Orton. They do have Brandon Marshall and first round draft choice Knowshon Moreno to lean on and if the defense improves, Denver could be a surprise this season. The Oakland Raiders have no long term answer at quarterback until they see what JaMarcus Russell can do. At least they have Justin Fargas...
AFC South Football Picks
September 13, 2009
There are some tough teams to pick from in the AFC South beginning with the Indianapolis Colts. Even though Tony Dungy has retired, the Colts shouldn’t miss a step with Jim Caldwell leading the team. After all they still have Peyton Manning taking charge of the offense. The Houston Texans have given Matt Schaub some dangerous weapons to work with in Andre Johnson and Steve Slaton. Their offense ranked third last season so they have to like their chances with these guys. The Tennessee Titans...
AFC North NFL Picks
September 13, 2009
Who’s your favorite in the AFC North this year? There seems to be only one serious pick – the Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the best defenses in recent memory and an easier schedule than last year when that defense carried them to the Super Bowl. The easier schedule should help the offensive line that needs to do a better job of protecting quarterback big Ben Roethlisberger. The Baltimore Ravens have always depended on their vaulted defense and last year the offense relied heavily on the...
