Big East College Football Picks

August 31, 2009

With the NCAA football season ready to begin we wonder who has a chance to win the title in the Big East conference. It’s a weak league so could be anybody’s pick. South Florida has lots of question marks but a favorable schedule makes them a good bet. West Virginia never realized their dreams last season but should be as good if not better this year. But Pittsburgh also has a chance to sneak up on people this season. It is safe to say the Big East has a slim to nothing chance of being represented...

Big 10 College Football Picks

August 28, 2009

The competition in the Big 10 conference seems to come down to the Big 2. If you pick Ohio State, you have a pretty good argument. With Terrill Pryor under center the Buckeyes should expect great things. Their biggest challenge will be right away though, in Week 2 when USC comes to town. Ohio State will try to erase the memory of last year’s 32 point trouncing. The other side of the Big 2 is Penn State. Daryll Clark is the quarterback for the Nittany Lions and the match up with Ohio State...

Preseason NFL Football Picks

August 25, 2009

No matter which NFL team is your pick, quarterbacks are impact players. Here are a few random thoughts about some of the quarterbacks we’ve seen in the preseason so far. Seattle’s Matt Hasselbeck seems to be back to his old form. Last year he had problems with injuries and interceptions. So far this year he hasn’t thrown an interception in 28 attempts. There seems to be a bit of competition for quarterback in Cleveland. Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn are making it tough to pick a starter....

Chicago Bears Football Picks

August 20, 2009

New quarterback, veteran receiver, controversy – seems to be the formula for the NFL pre-season. Pick your words carefully because someone will make them sound differently than you intended – you can bet on that! And that’s what Chicago Bears new quarterback Jay Cutler said happened when he made a comment about their #1 receiver, Devin Hester. Cutler insists he didn’t mean to sound like he was taking a shot at Hester when he commented about what kind of receiver he was or wasn’t. Cutler...

Is Brett Favre Going to be a Viking?

August 18, 2009

Hold the presses! Did we say in an earlier post that Brett Favre was going to stay retired? Glad we didn’t put money on that! Sounds like we were fooled, right along with fans and players everywhere. But the important part of this story is how will Brett Favre impact the Minnesota Vikings. This makes the Vikings the team to beat now, a complete team, a veteran team and loaded with expectations. They have a powerful defense, a great running back in Adrian Peterson, and now the historic Brett...

Los Angeles Angles MLB Picks

August 18, 2009

In Major League Baseball the arguments continue about pitching vs hitting. Pick a side – they both have good arguments. And money to be made on either side as well. Specialty pitchers and high percentage sluggers get paid! The contrast is extreme for this year’s Los Angeles Angels team though. In the past the offense tried to be aggressive while basically the bats were impotent. This offset a stellar pitching staff. This year the pitchers have collapsed while the bats are on fire with...

Big 12 College Football Predictions

August 16, 2009

The Big 12 North is a battle of “have-nots”. Everyone is predicting a fall from Missouri with the loss of quarterback Chase Daniel and wide receiver Jeremy Macklin. Not so fast friends, there’s a new QB with loads of talent in 6’5”, 235 lb. Blaine Gabbert. Last year’s defense struggled so the loss of four starters there might not be all bad for the Tigers. Kansas might have the best kept secret in college football. Overshadowed by Big 12 quarterbacks Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, departed...

Preseason College Football Predictions

August 16, 2009

Again this year the Big 12 South is a toss up. Oklahoma, Texas – take your pick. The October 17th game in the Cotton Bowl between these two should be another great stage for these two great teams with two great quarterbacks. Overall the results this season might be different this year. Colt McCoy still has one of the most formidable offensive lines in the country to protect him. With all their talent Texas should be able to run the table this season as nothing much has changed for them. On...

ACC Football Picks

August 13, 2009

The preseason favorite to win the ACC Atlantic division is Florida State but it could be a tough road for the Seminoles. Their non conference schedule includes defending national champion Florida as well as BYU and South Florida. Their conference schedule isn’t a bunch of cream puffs either. Every one of their conference opponents went to a bowl game last year. On the plus side for FSU, their offense returns seven starters including the entire offensive line and quarterback Christian Ponder....

NFL Preseason Picks

August 13, 2009

I know the Hall of Fame game didn’t really mean much but it still was exciting to have the NFL back. Get your comfy chair, snacks, and cooler ready because football is back! Everybody’s picks and favorite conversations are based on any one of a number of factors – who will be starting, playing, injured and most importantly, winning. And the most talked about position is quarterback. Now that we know Brett Farve is really retired we can talk about the guys that might be playing for the Vikings....
